Facts and tips about optimization using “Prefetch” and “Superfetch” in Windows XP™ and Vista™.Windows anticipates your needs. The two functions Prefetch and Superfetch make sure your programs start quickly when you open them. This means it no longer takes an eternity for the program window to appear. But beware – rumors and false tips have been circulating the Internet for years.

The truth about Prefetch and Superfetch!

New to Windows XP™, Microsoft introduced the Prefetch component. It remembers which file segments a program reads into memory once an application has been started. If the user, for example, double-clicks on the link to Microsoft Word, a large number of files are read into memory in the background, even though usually only certain segments of these files are actually needed to start the program. This makes the hard drive’s reading head jump from file to file in order to collect all of the necessary information. This takes time and leads to considerable delays in starting the program!

“Prefetch” remembers these segments and stores them in a file in the folder “Windows\Prefetch”. By clicking on Microsoft Word, users now save time since those files and data needed to start the program have already been preloaded.The “Superfetch” technology in Windows Vista™ also speeds up loading times for applications. It "learns" over time which programs users run most often. For example, if you frequently start the Media Player and Firefox after switching on the computer, Superfetch preloads the data needed to run these applications into your system memory. This means, your programs will be ready whenever you need them, because now the significantly slower hard drive no longer has to do the work!

Unfortunately there are a lot of false tips and information about Prefetch and Superfetch on the Internet. Even reputable online magazines and trade magazines sometimes erroneously publish this information, thereby causing even more confusion. If you are lucky, these myths about optimization will have no effect on your PC. More often than not, however, they even slow down system performance!

Keep away from the Prefetch folder!

Emptying this folder immediately slows down run times until Windows has once again compiled all required Prefetch information and this is a long and slow process. Windows automatically cleans up the folder.Prefetch does not use up memory unnecessarily. Disabling it actually increases loading times for programs.Superfetch preloads those applications into memory that are used most. However this is only happens if Windows does not execute any other write or read accesses. Disabling Superfetch therefore does not affect the time it takes to launch Windows.

What’s more, disabling Superfetch does not save memory.

By doing so, memory remains unused and empty – a true waste of your computer's resources! It is therefore better for Superfetch to fill the memory with this data thereby improving your system’s performance. Please note: If a program is started that is not immediately recognized by Superfetch, this does not mean that there is no memory available to run this program. Windows empties a portion of the memory used by Superfetch within a few milliseconds so that the program can immediately use it.

TuneUp Utilities 2009 users can sit back and relax, since TuneUp Speed Optimizer detects incorrect settings for Prefetch and Superfetch. Follow these steps for quicker loading times on a sustained basis:

Start TuneUp Utilities 2009. Go to the Start page and under “System health”, click on “Details”, if problems have been indicated in this area. If not, move on to the next step.
Now go through the individual problems. If the message “Prefetch data deleted” appears, either you or a program has emptied the folder with the important Prefetch data. If this is the case, make sure that the data can no longer be deleted.Switch to “Increase performance” in TuneUp Utilities 2009. Then click on “TuneUp Speed Optimizer”. If TuneUp Speed Optimizer is being started for the first time you will first be required to answer four questions. Confirm the selected settings with “OK” and then click on “Quick Optimization”.

In order to use these functions effectively, you need to defragment the hard drive. This ensures that Prefetch data are optimally positioned on the hard drive so that they can be accessed more quickly.

1. All participants now know as to what was going behind them and how they were back-stabbed as the culprits were nabbed and even jailed and censored; but what is not known to the participants until recently is how the Bakhtiar-duo were planning and executing. The nasty part of the story should also be shown and exposed.
2. In the two earlier Big Bosses, ample time was spent on cooking and eating and we knew the sort of life the participants were subjected to, but this time the viewers are left guessing on it. They have now interest in each and every aspect of participants’ way of life which is not certainly of 100 grams of edibles that are shown to viewers, but something more.
3. Big Boss seems to have forgotten participants like Aditi, Samita and Kambli whose activities are shown less. If they perform well, they should find more coverage, if not they are misfits for the Big Boss’ house. Of course Samita has gone, but the rest of the lot need more recharging.
4. The major part of the Claudia-Pravesh talks remain inaudible due to the perilously low voice Claudia talks in. While Pravesh talks to her mainly in English, Claudia in order not to be caught in camera perhaps speaks in English in low voice. However, whatever be the matter, viewers with knowledge of Hindi are certainly much more than viewers with English knowledge. So for every English talks, there should be Hindi subtitles or translations. Big Boss is not certainly the Big Brother of London.
5. The viewers do not like to see a crying Bakhtiar whose murmurings and utterances do not appear to be genuine. So his “rondu mukhada (tearful face)” should not attract the attention of camera at all.
6. Claudia with almost no knowledge of Hindi should be allowed to speak in English which should be shown in Hindi sub-titles. She should no longer remain a mute spectator. Others also should be allowed to talk with her in English with Hindi translations.
7. After the Big Boss’ exposure, Rohit, a star performer alongside Bindu, has become defenseless. Big Boss should strengthen him by exposing Bakhtiar which will divert the issue altogether.
8. Raju with his depleted stock of comical stuffs has become stereotyped and monotonous. His performances are only repetitions of his earlier performances. He is too serious now for the title to have any lighter moment for the viewers.

Big Boss – 3 (up to 16.11.09)

Big Boss bares them all and creates big drama which finds Rohit in a delirious mood muttering and murmuring and finally shouting at his own folly causing his self-alienation from the rest with tottering credibility and rootless unreliability. A few of the future episodes of Big Boss promise big drama and high TRP as high tension characterized by melodramatic  soliloquies and dramatic overtones are bound to strike a heavy dose of outbursts and arguments elevating the                      non-performers and semi-performers to some sort of chaotic and combative performers. Participants are going to spend sleepless and sleeveless nights with their blood vessels mounting and hearts palpitating.

Of all the performers, Poonam stands out as the coolest customer adding to her support-base among the participants. But this hardly adds to her performance which has never been outstanding as Big Boss is not all about winning the title but providing spectators with dramatic enthrallment.

Bindu as usual remains the star performer with his outspokenness and impressive performances. He remains the darling of spectators and best suited to win the title.

Rohit recharges the episodes with the required doses of conflict and confusion necessary for the forward movement of the serial, very often with uncalculated extravaganza dominating each and every episode with his skillfully devised plots often ending in a fiasco.

Bakhtiar has nothing else to give us except his unjustified tears with utterances of vengeance on those voting against the couple and alienating him to draw sympathy of spectators who are wise enough to understand that the the couple was never promised a stay-together and that performance counts which we find wanting in him altogether.

Aditi does not seem to have applied her mind well since the beginning of her sojourn and she is now in a horrible state with the declining strength of her admirers and friends.

For whatever reason may be, Claudia seems to be a misfit altogether for the show, relying more on Bindu’s support than her own performances.

Pravesh has performed well in his small stint at Big Boss neutralizing the Raju effect to the spectators’ delight as Raju’s pranks have become stereotyped and empty. But his togetherness with Claudia seems more dramatic than real!

On the whole, Big Boss should make the bench strength of participants half-empty and half-full to capture the rapture of spectators in the days to come. ♥

Removal tools and uninstallation instructions for various antivirus software

Currently am using Avast AV and for some reason ,want to change my antivirus software,and suddenly  encounter problems while uninstalling my  old antivirus.Then what will be the solution to this of course without formatting my windows.Many antivirus software producers offer special tools or instructions  (so does Avast).Neat and thorough uninstallation of a program,is a must as it will be less problematic .

The Monday nomination process sprang few surprises. As usual, it became a number game rather than a mind game. The house has so many women participants than their male counterparts that the powerful male members who are virtually three in number are always going to be singled out and nominated which happened this time also.

More than anybody else, the Tanaj-Bakhtiar couple have been playing a dirty game, definitely distasteful to the viewers as not only they cling to each other unpalatably together in the hall of and on, but their voting pattern is also in the similar lines and the person voted by them definitely becomes vulnerable to nomination and ultimate eviction. I do not understand why Big Boss gives the couple a vote each instead of giving only a single composite vote to both of them taken together, especially when they caste their votes in the similar lines virtually controlling the play themselves.

It is high time that big boss should declare that their votes will not be counted as two, but only a single vote as it has been proved during the past few weeks that they have the similar voting pattern followed by consultation with each other which is illegal in the house. Big Boss should do something to capture the rapture of the viewers by freeing them from the clutches of foul play boringly adopted by the two-some.

The example I am going to give here does not relate to good business, but your business will grow phenomenally if you learn from it. The case is related to a government hospital at the city of Puri at Orissa in Central India. The case is unique because government hospitals in India except may be one or two hospitals like AIIMS at Delhi are noted for their callousness, carelessness and lack of concern for their patients and the situation is quite alarming.

I for myself am less prone to preference for treatment at any government hospital and even never at Puri though my residence is at a stone’s through distance from the government hospital. But I had a very rare compulsion to visit the outdoor of the hospital for some emergency treatment which changed my opinion so drastically that I am not shying away from comparing the service and care rendered by the hospital to some very big corporate offices where the main motive behind is profit only and still their behavior is short of our expectations.

Just at the entrance, an employee was found seated who gave me a welcome smile and guided me to the room adjacent to it where a threesome group of members were found seated consisting of a lady doctor, one compounder and a writer to jot down names and addresses of persons coming for treatment. All of them had ample time to look at me with smiles across their lips which suggested that I am the most welcome guest to them and not a hindrance to their gossips and drowsiness which generally are the characteristic features of government hospitals in India. The doctor asked me what  my trouble was about and requested me to purchase a ticket at one rupee from the front counter to which the compounder guided me. Here I remember one occasion when I went the biggest government hospital of Orissa at Cuttack where to purchase the entry ticket I had to spend about one hour to locate the counter and to purchase the treatment ticket as, after locating the counter with my hectic effort of twenty minutes, I found ticket salesman absent.

As soon as I came with the ticket, the compounder took the ticket from me in the most helpful manner and gave it to the register writer who asked me regarding my name and address and my age and after recording the register serial no. on the slip, he gave it to the doctor who spoke me in most soothing manner and prescribed required medicines. The compounder then told me to come after purchasing the medicines to enable the doctor to examine the medicines and explain the dosage.

Within ten minutes, I came with the prescribed medicines. The compounder examined the medicines and guided me to the room where a pharmacist was waiting for patients to come. I still remember the greeting smile of the compounder and a winning one too. He gave me the injection and shook hands with me in a good gesture.

The inside and outside of the hospital are so much clean that they are perfectly in tune with the hospitability I received from the officials earlier. They all echoed in my ears that this is the reason for which the hospital is the only one of its kind in India to earn ISO 9006 certification this year.

Advertisers can no longer get away with exaggerated & false claims

 

All advertising contains some amount of false sense of superiority.  But , the fact of the matter is viewer does not have any testing parameters to find  the truth of the claim supposed to be . Access to fair information is consumer right. “Consumer is the King.”

As TNN adds , “ Ever wondered how particular malted milk hot drink could  supposedly make children ,       gulp down  mug or two  of it everyday, grow taller than their peers who drink their rival  brands * * * * * * this is the message some drink companies have decided to bombard consumers with via glitzy television ad campaigns.”

All fool and beverage ads (F&B) will come under the government of Bharat’s (India) scanner.  The  propose  code  will stop advertisers that make  tall false claims about the after effect of products on physical ability, nutrition health,etc.

In case of violation of code the food safety and standards Authority may take action against these companies.

1. It can reveal the fact to consumers
2. Investigation against the company can be ordered into
3. If proved guilty, monetary penalty up to Rs10Lakh

As it is new phenomena in Bharat government is thinking of lighter version of  implementation . In America FTC carries out tough scrutiny for child food ads.

In a short, advertisers should now mean what to say. It is high time, they should be straight  and true to the consumers as consumers are supposed to be King.
